ADOPTING A GRATEFUL DOG
We are so excited to hear you are considering adopting a Grateful Dog!
Thank you for helping us in our efforts to save our dogs and give them a chance at a new forever life.
Without your support, we would not be able to carryout our daily operations and save so many lives.
STARTING APRIL 2025, TGD IS PILOTING A MORE INCLUSIVE, ACCESSIBLE APPROACH TO ADOPTION
STEP one
FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION
Please be DETAILED so we can work to find the best match for you.
The Grateful Dog is a small organization consisting of dedicated and dog loving volunteers who are helping in their free time to save lives and complete families.
While we try to be as responsive as possible, it can take up to 3 days to fully approve your application.
This all depends on how quickly your references respond.

STEP two
REFERENCE/ID CHECKS​

This is a vital step to our process.
We will check 3 non-family references, as well as a veterinary reference.

Please be sure to let your references know to expect either a text/phone call, or keep an eye out in their emails.

If you are a first time adopter without a vet, no problem!
We will check your references and go from there!
​
​We ask for a copy of a valid drivers license/ID.
STEP three
SET UP A MEET AND GREET​
​
Once you are approved to adopt, we will then put you in touch with our adoptions team to determine the best match.
Once we have narrowed down options, we will put you in touch with the foster family of the dog you are interested in adopting.
Please be prepared to adopt if you are applying!
We do not hold dogs for any period of time.
Get your questions ready and be as prepared as possible for the meet and greet.
STEP four
ADOPT YOUR GRATEFUL DOG!
Once you have communicated with the foster family and you have set up a meet and greet, it is important to remember that you are expected to adopt on the day of the meet and greet, as long as everything goes well.
To protect the safety and privacy of our foster families, our meet and greets are held in public locations.
All adoption paperwork is signed electronically and must be filled out before the dog leaves the fosters possession.

ADOPTION FEES
What's included?
Fees include your dogs age-appropriate vaccines, microchip, negative 4DX test (age depending), flea/tick & heartworm prevention up to date, health certificate, transport fee north, as well as a routine deworming.
All adults are adopted spayed/neutered.
Adults/Altered Puppies =$575*
Senior Dogs (8+YRS) = $400
*Puppies who are too young to be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption will be adopted with a legally binding spay/neuter contract.
What to expect?
Once you have scheduled your meet and greet, within 24-48 hours of your meet and greet, our adoptions coordinator will send over a confirmation email which will contain the details of the meet and greet, as well as important vetting information about the dog you are potentially adopting.
You will also receive a text message which contains the link to complete the adoption. We DO NOT want this paperwork signed in advance, but expect you should review it before the day of the meet and greet. This should be signed and paid before you leave the meet and greet with your dog.
At this time, we are only accepting credit card payments.
